Systems Administrator
This is an on-site position with a requirement to work in-person at the office in downtown Calgary.
Role Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Entra Systems Administrator to join the IT team.
This individual will be responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and optimization of our Microsoft Entra (Azure Active Directory) environment, ensuring secure, scalable, and efficient identity and access management across the enterprise. The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of 5 years of full-scale Entra administration experience in complex enterprise environments and be a trusted subject matter expert for identity security and governance.
Responsibilities
- Lead the administration and lifecycle management of Microsoft Entra (Azure Active Directory), including tenants, domains, identities, roles, and groups.
- Architect and maintain identity synchronization between on-premises Active Directory and Entra ID (Azure AD Connect, Cloud Sync, etc.).
- Implement and maintain Entra Conditional Access policies, authentication methods, and multifactor authentication (MFA) enforcement.
- Manage and optimize Entra ID Governance components, including access reviews, entitlement management, and privileged identity management (PIM).
- Design and implement secure SSO (SAML/OAuth/OIDC) integrations with SaaS, cloud, and on-premises applications.
- Monitor and respond to identity-related security alerts, audit logs, and compliance reports.
- Develop and maintain documentation, diagrams, and standard operating procedures for Entra environments.
- Provide advanced technical support, mentorship, and guidance to the help desk team.
- Participate in identity-related projects, security assessments, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with cybersecurity and application teams to ensure alignment with organizational security policies and best practices.
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on, full-scale administration of Microsoft Entra (Azure Active Directory) in enterprise environments.
- Microsoft Certificate: Azure Solutions Architect
- Strong experience with Entra ID Governance, Conditional Access, MFA, PIM, and identity lifecycle management.
- Deep understanding of Active Directory, Azure AD Connect, hybrid identity architectures, and federation services (ADFS).
- Proficiency with PowerShell scripting for automation, configuration, and reporting.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 security and compliance frameworks and Entra ID integration with Microsoft 365 services.
- Experience managing SSO integrations and enterprise application identity federation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, documentation practices, and ability to manage complex identity environments.
- Strong understanding of identity-related security controls, governance, and zero trust principles.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from a recognized Canadian Institution.
- Relevant Microsoft certifications (e.g., SC-300: Microsoft Identity and Access Administrator, MS-102: Microsoft 365 Administrator, or equivalent).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Entra Verified ID, Entra Permissions Management, and Entra External ID.
- Experience with identity monitoring and security tooling (Defender for Identity, Sentinel, etc.).
- Prior experience in regulated industries (energy, critical infrastructure, etc.) with strong security/compliance requirements.
